Frequently Asked Paint Protection Questions
While we always recommend calling our shop at (908) 731-7505 to discuss your car needs, here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive about paint protection.
What Types of Paint Protection are There?
We typically apply paint protection film (PPF), ceramic coating, glass coating, and wax to all types of vehicles.
How is Paint Protection Applied?
Paint protection is applied directly onto the paint to bond and last longer. If necessary, we will remove the current coverage, complete a full paint correction, and properly install a new layer of protection. After the paint protection is applied, further upgrades include ceramic coatings made specifically for PPF to increase shine and durability.
How Long Does Paint Protection Last?
Depending on the type of paint protection, the type of driving you do, and other environmental factors, longevity varies. We have seen PPF last years on track cars (saving the paint below). On street car applications, 3M Scotchguard Pro is guaranteed to last for 10 years.
Is Paint Protection Worth it?
Paint protection is an investment in your vehicle. After application, you’ll quickly see why paint protection is worth your time and money, as it will maintain the integrity of your car’s original paint and overall value. However, if you’re unsure about the upfront cost for a paint protection application, think of how much it will cost to repair scratches and rock chips in the future. Consistent protection application and upkeep will also have your car looking brand new years after purchase.
My Car is Brand New. Does it Need Paint Protection?
A brand new car is the perfect “blank canvas” for coatings. At this point, the vehicle is usually free from contaminants and imperfections, such as paint chips. However, a new car may still require a single stage polishing to remove any swirl marks from dealer prep, but this is a minimal step. Since new cars require less prep work generally, the cost of protection coatings are lower—and you can enjoy your investment for longer!
My Car is Used or a Few Years Old. Does it Need Paint Protection?
You may just be learning about paint protection products now, and that’s okay! We can touch up chips in hoods and bumpers. Paint correction on a vehicle that has a few seasons or years of use can add tremendous resale value, as well as enjoyment for the current owner. Paint protection on an “already loved” vehicle can also act like a factory reset to provide you with the “like new” feeling.
What is the Most Common Paint Protection?
We most commonly get requests for paint protection film (PPF) or ceramic coating. Both are extremely popular options among daily drivers, track cars, and weekend toys.
What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a transparent material that can be applied to any exterior painted surface on your vehicle. It protects against chips, scratches, swirl marks, chemical stains, hard water spots, and oxidation. Contact us for more information.
PPF can also change the entire look of your car. We can apply a matte PPF film where the original paint will still show through, but with a matte/flat appearance. This has become a very popular option.
What is Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic coating is a semi-permanent shield that can last years, making it an extremely popular paint protection option. There are many options in this service and we urge you to learn more about ceramic coating here.
